First, you need to take Youth Protection Training (YPT), It takes about 90 mins. Then complete an adult application and background check form. Here are the steps:
- Follow this link: https://my.scouting.org/
- Create an account (you may have one when you signed up your child.)
- Select YPT training. The logo is on top right once you login.
- Complete the training and print the certificate.
- Complete Adult application online here:

- Email the application, background check, and YPT certificate or hand it to the Committee Chair.

These instructor-led courses are designed to help Scouters learn how to effectively carry out their Scouting roles. In most cases, completing the course will make a Scouter “trained” for the role(s) covered in the course. E-learning versions of some courses may be found in the E-learning section.
These courses are intended to provide the following positions with the information and tools they need to conduct a successful Program:
- Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Den Leaders
- Cubmasters and Assistant Cubmasters
- Pack Committee and Committee Chair
Leaders who complete the training are considered trained for their position.
