Pack Activities

Pack 1220 is very active during the year.  here are so many fun things available for Cub Scouts, it’s hard to list them all. Also, the Cub Scouting program is designed so that Cubs at each Grade Level can do activities suitable for that age. Den activities include crafts, telling jokes and stories, learning about our country, and playing games (ESPECIALLY playing games!). Each den has many other events each month.  Contact your den leader for more information on den activities. Some of our major events are listed below.

Pack Meetings: Each month during the school year, all Scouts of Pack 1220 meet as a single group. There, they have a lot of fun!  Skits are performed, the boys tell other Scouts what their dens have done over the past month, and awards are given out.

In addition to Pack meetings there are events almost each month during the school year:

The Blue and Gold Banquet: All the families in the Pack gather for Scouting’s annual birthday party (usually in February) and celebration of Scouting. The Blue and Gold Banquet usually features good food and fellowship, topped off awards and a cake baking contest. This event involves a pot-luck dinner, cake decorating contest, awards and recognitions, and our annual “Crossover” of our Webelos to Boy Scouting.

Christmas Parade

Join us as we proceed down the parade route each December on our custom-built parade float built by our amazing parent volunteers!

Cub Scout Day/Twilight Camp:

In June, our District puts on a Day/Twilight Camp for Cub Scouts, right here in Plano.  At Twilight Camp, Cub Scouts can do extended activities, all afternoon long, including activities such as BB-gun shooting and Archery that can’t be done at den meetings, along with various sports and craft activities.

Raingutter Regatta

This is a fun Pack event held in the Fall each year.  At this event, we set up our raingutters at an outdoor venue where the boys race their custom-built sailboats using nothing more than wind power. This is also an outdoor family picnic for the entire family.

Pack Family Camping

Each Spring and Fall, the Pack 1220 family heads out on a family camping trip for a weekend of camping.  This is a family event that includes the entire family..  At these campouts, the entire family is invited for a weekend of fun including such activities as swimming, fishing, hiking, campfires, skits, and much more.

Pinewood Derby

From a rectangular piece of pine, Cubs work with parents to shape, sand, paint and decorate a race car. The Pack gathers in January for the Pinewood Derby, where all Cubs race their cars on a special track owned by the Pack. Winners get trophies. This is a great event for the entire family!

Scouting for Food

Every February, as a pack service project we hit the streets of our community to gather food for the needy as part of a nationwide effort to help the needy in our community.

Summer Activities

We don’t stop during the summer months. Pack 1220 is very busy during the summer months, with at least one event each month during the months of June, July, and August.  Some of the events normally include a swimming party / family picnic, and a bowling party.  Many of our dens have activities in addition to these.

Community / School projects: Pack 1220 has adopted Hedgcoxe Elementary as part of the national BSA Adopt a School Project.  As part of this project, we volunteer for various projects in and around the school throughout the year.

Religious Emblem Program:  The Cub Scout Religious Emblem program offers a partnership between the boy’s family, the family’s religious leaders, and Scouting, to explore age-appropriate faith issues. Scouting is strictly non-sectarian, so each faith partnering with Scouting has developed a curriculum and workbooks for its own Religious Emblem Award. Cub Scouts who complete their faith’s Religious Emblem program receive a Religious Emblem medal.  As with the academic and sports loops, the choice of working on the Religious Emblem Award is completely optional with the Cub Scout.
